Welcome Angler,

With a new state record Lake Trout, incredible streams, and mind-blowing alpine lakes the Gunnison Valley is a premiere vacation destination.  We know you're hooked on the fishing, so please enjoy the following inside look at current conditions from Willowfly Anglers at Three Rivers Resort and Outfitting:

Taylor River:
Standard nymph patterns, including Pheasant Tails, stoneflies, caddis, Copper Johns, and Hare's Ears. Also try a Wooly Bugger - black or olive 6-8, and Western Coachman. Streamers - black, olive, white/yellow. Dry fly action with caddis, stoneflies, and Green Drakes and PMDs.

Taylor Catch and Release:
Small nymph and midge patterns, including Pheasant Tails 20-24, midges 20-24, and mysis shrimp 20-24. Dry fly action with small midges, BWOs 18-24, and PMDs 14-16.

Gunnison River:
The Gunnison is fishing well. Standard nymph patterns, including Pheasant Tails 12-22, Copper Johns 12-16, and stoneflies 6-12. Also try a Wooly Bugger - black or olive 6-8, and Western Coachman. Streamers - black, olive, white/yellow. There has been a very good caddis hatch, along with stoneflies, PMDs, and Green Drakes.

East River:
The East River is fishing well with both nymphs and dry flies. Dry fly action is very good with caddis and Yellow Sallies hatching throughout the day. Drakes (12-14) are now hatching and the fish are actively feeding in the riffles and on the edges of the fast water. Nymphing the fast water can be very productive.

Thanks for checking in today.  Thanks to Willowfly Anglers for the current report.
