Fishing and Skiing in Crested Butte11-19-06

Greetings Angler,

Sunshine and mild, seasonal temperatures continue to define Gunnison Valley weather.  We've received significant snowfall accumulations in the high country and most rivers and streams at or below Crested Butte are very fishable.  We love hitting the water during the afternoon warm-up after a morning in the powder-rich mountains.   Remember, high altitude Colorado fishing requires sunscreen all year long.

Email Admin@FishCrestedButte.com and we'll work with you to plan and book your dream fishing trip.    We'll also make your dinner reservations for Sushi at The Lobar, your "Steak-Feed" at the legondary Wooden Nickel, or any of the exceptional dining experiences on your must-do list.

Let our travel planning team work for you.  We'll match you with Featured Travel Partners best suited to meet your travel needs and expectations.  Please trust that we never sell, trade, or otherwise transfer the contact information you provide.  FishCrestedButte.com lets you enjoy Your Vacation-Your Way!

In other fishing news, ice fishing has commenced in earnest on the Gunnison River just above Blue Mesa Lake.  Always check Ice Depths before heading out and travel with experienced persons if unfamiliar with Ice Fishing safety protocols!  Call us to book your ice fishing trip (970) 349-7047.

The Catch Fishing Report 11-05-06

Greetings Angler,

A great Fall season continued today on a beautiful November day in Crested Butte.  Although the Alpine Lakes are icy and not shanty-thick, we found fishing at the Slate River to be warm and active.  We saw Salmon at Skyland-both living and "on the way out".  Trout were hungry.

Enjoy the this current look at Gunnison Valley fishing conditions provided by
3 Rivers Resort and Outfitting:

Kokanee Salmon Run:
Kokanee are a land-locked form of sockeye salmon. The run to the Roaring Judy Fish Hatchery is the only all natural run in Colorado that goes to a hatchery. Each April, 2-inch kokanee fry are released from Roaring Judy into the East River. Their overnight journey takes them down the East to the Gunnison River and onto Blue Mesa Reservoir, where they typically spend two or three summers. In late August, the salmon begin their trek back to the hatchery and the run usually lasts through October. Division of Wildlife personnel spawn the salmon at the hatchery, taking 3,000,000 to 10,000,000 eggs per year. Catch and release fishing for kokanee is allowed on the Gunnison River and East River. Some salmon make a "wrong turn" up the Taylor River. If you are staying with us, we have an excellent area on our property for salmon fishing. For more information on the salmon run, call our guide service. You can also reach the hatchery at 970-641-0190.
