Daily Catch Fishing Report 05-11-06
Good afternoon!
Fishing this morning up Spring Creek off the Taylor River was sweet. First of all, the weather was a dream, 60 degrees, warm sun, with light breezes. The water clarity was outstanding with excellent visibility through to the bottom of the slower moving water and pools. There were many trout just to the other side of the main current from where I stood. In that particular section, Spring Creek is quite narrow, 30 feet across at the most. I'm happy to report that I am personally now 1 for the season! A midge and a little luck go along way sometimes I suppose.
Before I went up Spring Creek, I stopped and talked with Brian Bell, owner/guide at Almont Anglers. Over the past week, Brian has observed moderating flows on the East River with a slight increase in water visibility. If Crested Butte/Gunnison area temperatures remain moderate, without sharp-sustained increases, run-off levels may plateau and begin a gradual decrease as June approaches. We may not get a significant flood, as a good amount of the winter snow pack has melted out in the Crested Butte upper watershed (as evidenced by softball practice in CB town park!). Brian was running a float- fishing trip on the lower Gunnsion today where fishing has remained active throughout spring run-off.
Thanks for checking in today-enjoy the sunshine this afternoon!
