Daily Catch Fishing Report 05-08-06
Good Morning,
Results from this weekend's Blue Mesa Fishing Tournament will be posted as soon as they become available. 120 teams competed and undoubtedly some lunkers made their way into the boats.
Albert Mismash, owner of Gunnison Fish and Raft had a great Sunday 05-07-06 float on the Gunnison River. Between Almont and the Gunnison White Water Park, the two fishermen boated 14 fish, including Brown Trout and larger Rainbow and Cuttbow in the 18-20" range. Their Fly of the Day was the Conehead White Rabbit on sink-tip fly-line.
The Gunnison river was turbid and fast @ 1300 cubic feet per second, with minimal eddy lines, low visibility, and cold water temperatures. Despite these less than favorable conditions, Albert sums it up as "A great 5 hour day on the River." Check out the picture of the nice 19" Rainbow Trout they boated on the Crested Butte Fishing Cam at FishCrestedButte.com.
Albert forecasts better fishing between Almont and Gunnison later in afternoon
when East River run-off contributions are a bit lower and clearer.
Monday's current fishing weather is chilly in the upper basin, with isolated showers and flurries. I would head toward Almont and Gunnison if I were you.
Fish-on!
